A contract awarded by the U.S. Navy to Development Engineering Inc., a subsidiary of Paraho Development Corp., authorizes preparation of existing semiworks-scale oil shale retorting facilities for a production run to provide 100,000 bbl of Paraho crude shale oil for refining and subsequent testing of the synthetic military products as part of a $12 to $15 million joint Department of Defense-E.R.D.A. project. A government contract for refining the 100,000 bbl of crude shale oil will be let competitively in 1977. Two Paraho retorts are located at the Anvil Points Oil Shale Research Facility on the Naval Oil Shale Reserve near Rifle, Colo.
