Analyzing and controlling noise in process plants

Journal Article · · Chem. Eng. (N.Y.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6983053
Because noise from process plant equipment may pose a safety hazard to plant personnel, it is necessary to minimize such noise. Levels of noise produced by the following 11 pieces of equipment are calculated: centrifugal compressors, rotary-screw compressors, reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, electrical motors, pumps, natural draft furnaces, forced draft furnaces, air-fin coolers, cross-flow exchangers, and control valves. Sound level estimates are used to determine the best and most economical methods of eliminating noise problems. (8 graphs, 8 references, 6 tables)
