Federal noise control under the Noise Control Act of 1972 and the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970

A cursory guideline to the philosophy behind the Noise Control Act of 1972 and the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, is presented along with the source and burden of the standards set for various products and industries. It is noted that in the petroleum industry the most common noise sources are air coolers, compressors, electric motors, heaters and furnaces, valves, and piping. Noise control treatments are available for all these sources. The estimated cost of treatment is given. (JRD)
