Vibration and noise of large turbomachinery

Journal Article · · Sound Vib.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5426583
Examined are components of large turbomachinery, such as central power station steam and gas turbines, that are responsible for creating annoying noise levels. A major problem in large steam turbines is blade failure. Methods of measuring the noise generated from steam and gas turbines are described, and techniques for preventing excessive noise levels are discussed. Generator noise from any type of turbine should not pose an occupational or community hazardif the manufacturer and power plant designer work together. (5 diagrams, 6 graphs, 7 photos, 47 references)
