We measure the angular distribution of fragments in ..cap alpha..-particle and proton induced fission of /sup 209/Bi, /sup 206/Pb, /sup 205/Tl, /sup 197/Au, /sup 185/Re, and /sup 182/W in the range of excitation energies E = 35 to 75 MeV. From analysis of the data we obtain new information on the critical angular momentum l/sub cr/, and using this information and the quasiclassical approach we consider the systematic behavior of the distribution of angular momenta transferred to the fissioning nucleus and the cross section sigma/sub c/ for the production of the compound nucleus in reactions induced by light charged particles.
