Process for multi-stage fast fluidized bed regeneration of catalyst
This patent describes a process for the fluidized catalytic cracking of a heavy feed to lighter more valuable products by mixing, in the base of a riser reactor, a heavy crackable feed with a source of hot regenerated catalytic cracking catalyst withdrawn from a catalyst regenerator, and cracking the fuel in the riser reactor to produce catalytically cracked products and spent catalyst which are discharged from the top of the riser into a catalyst disengaging zone wherein cracked products are separated from spent catalyst. It comprises discharging the stripped catalyst from the catalyst standpipe into a vertical, generally cylindrical coke combustor vessel which is at least partially immersed in the bubbling dense bed; adding an oxygen containing regeneration gas to the coke combustor vessel; discharging partially regenerated catalyst and flue gas from the coke combustor into the dilute phase region within the regenerator vessel containing the bubbling fluidized bed; and collecting the partially regenerated catalyst in the bubbling fluidized bed; adding additional oxygen containing gas to the bubbling fluidized bed in an amount sufficient to maintain the bed as a bubbling, dense phase fluidized bed, and sufficient to burn from 5 to 50% of the coke on spent catalyst.
