This patent describes an apparatus for the fluidized catalytic cracking of a heavy feed to lighter, more valuable products. It comprises a regenerator vessel, a riser reactor, a reactor vessel, a catalyst stripper, a vertical, stripped catalyst standpipe, a catalyst transfer vessel with an elevation at least partially below the regenerator vessel, a spent catalyst transfer line having an inlet connective with the transfer vessel outlet and having a transfer line outlet; a coke combustor; a coke combustor transfer line; a catalyst/flue gas disengaging means within the regenerator vessel and comprising a vertical cylinder having a vertical axis and axially aligned with at least partially enclosing the vertical spent catalyst standpipe.
