Inclusive and semi-inclusive distributions in rapidity of. pi. /sup + -/ mesons from K/sup -/p interactions at 32 GeV/c

Distributions in rapidity of ..pi../sup + -/ mesons from inclusive and semi-inclusive processes in K/sup -/p interactions at 32 GeV/c are presented for various intervals of p/sub T/. A technique is described for introduction of corrections for the admixture of unidentified protons and K/sup -/ mesons, which permits the spectra to be established over the entire region of variation of their kinematic variables. Inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections for production of ..pi../sup + -/ mesons in K/sup -/p interactions at 32 GeV/c have been determined. The behavior of the semi-inclusive y distributions of ..pi../sup + -/ mesons is analyzed, and the ratios R/sub n/(y) of the yield of ..pi../sup +/ and ..pi../sup -/ mesons in the proton-fragmentation region are investigated. The experimental data obtained are compared with the predictions of the quark recombination model.
