New source standard for power plants. I. Consider the costs

The economic impacts of stricter federal emission control standards on coal-fired power plant operation are evaluated. full development of U.S. coal resources; any strict, inflexible standards will have severe economic repercussions for both power plant operators and consumers. Articles in the Clean Air Act of 1977 that establish a framework for emission control regulations are examined. A nonuniform, sliding scale standard for power plant emissions is allowed for in the act. (73 references)
