Voith will supply runners to Bay D'Espoir
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, a crown provincial utility, has awarded a contract to Voith Hydro, Inc., to supply six 75-MW Francis-type runners for the utility's Bay D'Espoir hydroelectric plant. Following model testing in Voith's York, Pa., laboratory, the company said it will begin delivery of the new runners over a period from August 1993 through June 1996. Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro previously selected Voith to furnish one of the runners - an upgraded 110-inch, 16-ton stainless steel Francis runner - for Bay D'Espoir in Milltown, Newfoundland. Voith said that turbine, to be recommissioned later this year, will provide a significant increase in effficiency' and alleviate pressure pulsation problems.
