Leiden CHP station has 87% efficiency at 81 MW output

A combined cycle plant nearing completion in Leiden, about 50 km south of Amsterdam, is setting the scene for a major expansion of district heating service in the town later this year. The plant is the second district heating project in the Netherlands for Rolls-Royce. The contract was placed in 1983, shortly after completion of a similar plant for GEB Den Haag. Like that plant, which has been supplying district heating to the Dutch capital for the last three winters, the new plant at Leiden is basically a 2+1 combined cycle with aeroderivative gas turbines. The performance of the plant is discussed.
