Title: Dutch industry adding 100 MWe per year capacity through 1990

High crude oil prices and uncertainties over nuclear power have made successive governments aware of the need to conserve energy and make the most of a valuable national resource through installation of gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plants for district heating and industrial energy supply. The latest Dutch district heating project is just getting underway at Leiden. However, due to the economic recession, the Dutch market for new district heating developments has shrunk. On the other hand, the Dutch industrial CHP scene is much more buoyant. According to the Dept. of Energy, over 400 MW of industrial CHP cogeneration capacity has come on line since 1979 and installations are expected to continue at about 100 MWe per year to at least 1990. It is likely that all this capacity increase will be with gas turbines and heat recovery boilers.
