High-performance tools key to slimhole logging and perforating. Part 4

This is the fourth in a series of five articles identifying barriers to more widespread utilization of slimhole drilling and completion technologies for reducing the costs to drill and complete US gas wells. These articles summarize the results of a study funded by the Gas Research Institute (GRI) and are prepared by an industry team consisting of Maurer Engineering, BJ Services, Baker Oil Tools and Halliburton Energy Services. Previous articles discussed slimhole drilling, cementing and stimulation. The focus of this article is slimhole logging and perforating. It emphasizes the challenges that wireline companies meet in building and deploying high-performance, small-diameter tools. Part 5 of this series will discuss completion and workover tools. Parts 1, 2 and 3 were published in September, October and December 1994, respectively.
