Slimhole success will depend on completion, workover innovations. Part 5

A slimhole completion has been defined as one with a final casing size of 4 in. or less. Following this definition, the dominant US slimhole completion is a 2 7/8-in. tubingless completion. However, the use of 3 1/2 in. for production casing and liners is becoming more common. Cost savings from using small diameter completions can be obtained in either conventional size holes or in slim holes (4 3/4 in. and smaller). This is the last of a five-article series identifying barriers to more widespread use of slimhole drilling and completion for reducing the costs of US gas wells. These articles summarize results of a study funded by the Gas Research Institute (GRI) and prepared by Mauer Engineering, BJ Services, Baker Oil Tools and Halliburton Energy Services. Previous articles discussed slimhole drilling, cementing, stimulation, logging and perforating. This article discusses slimhole completion, workover and fishing tools.
