Protons from deuteron bombardment of /sup 7/Be

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6916220
Protons from the reaction /sup 7/Be(d,p)/sup 8/Be leading to /sup 8/Be excitations up to 11 MeV have been examined with a NaI(Tl) scintillation spectrometer. no groups attributable to /sup 8/Be are observed except those corresponding to the ground state (a) and the first excited state (b), along with a continuum extending to over 11 MeV excitation. Resonances are found at bombarding energies of 0.900 plus or minus 0.025 (a and b) and 1.475 plus or minus 0.010 MeV (b only) with center-of-mass widths of 120 plus or minus 40 and 71 plus or minus 8 keV, respectively, corresponding to states in /sup 9/B at 17.19 and 17.63 MeV. The excitation energy and width of the first excited state of /sup 8/Be are 2.90 plus or minus 0.06 and 1.53 plus or minus 0.04 MeV.
