Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 100 requires that all nuclear power plants be designed so that, if a Safe Shutdown Earthquake (SSE) occurs, certain structures, systems and components remain functional. This Guide presents a method for identifying and classifying those features of light-water-cooled nuclear power plants which should be designed to withstand the effects of an SSE. Input has been provided by the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.
