The modern pipe-coating plant of Gaido-Lingle Co. at Pearland, Tex. has facilities for handling large quantities of pipe up to 42 in. dia for external coating with different kinds of materials including enamel (asphalt, coal tar, coal tar epoxy), fusion-bonded thin film epoxy, and polyurethane coatings. The Pearland plant is described in detail with emphasis on the application of fusion-bonded coatings, including the careful drying, blasting, and removal of imperfections before coating; cooling, inspection, and testing with holiday detectors; and the special care in handling, and storing and shipping the pipe after coating. The Pearland plant applied thin film epoxy coating on 160 mi of 16 in. pipe for an oil line built in Peru by Occidental Petroleum Corp.
