LNG satellite plants fill a variety of needs throughout the Bay State Gas Co.'s distribution system, which provides gas service to several noncontiguous areas. Supplied by tanker trucks with LNG from the company's central liquefaction facility (in Ludlow, Mass.) and with imported LNG from Distrigas Corp., the satellite plants - depending on their size and location - can provide large-volume peakshaving needs in winter, prevent pressure-drop problems during peak days in normally low-demand areas, back up propane-air peakshaving supplies, and offset pipeline-gas interruptions.
