Three important areas of LNG technology are discussed: liquefaction, storage, and transportation. Composition and properties of natural gas and the different liquefaction schemes are discussed. A complete listing of U.S. and Canadian LNG plants, satellite peakshaving facilities, international LNG plants, and import/receiving terminals is given. In-ground and above-ground storage facilities are considered for safety, capital investment, maintenance costs, and heat transfer from the surroundings to the LNG. Over-the-road truck transport, pipelines, and marine tankers are the three methods for transporting LNG. (MCW)
