Direct-digital-control (DDC) technology has entered the marketplace at the rate of 12 new systems in the past three months. Honeywell, Inc. will introduce its system in January. Vendors are also beginning to make systems for small buildings, but potential users are cautious about the new technology because they are not familiar with the concept and because they understand and like the pneumatic systems. The DDC systems do not add complexity, but they do require some computer training, which the vendors will provide to overcome user fears. A directory lists 27 major manufacturers of DDC energy-management systems. (DCK)
