DDC adopted in new buildings, retrofits, process control

Energy managers report that retrofitting direct-digital-control (DDC) systems onto existing pneumatic energy-management systems is showing a two- to three-year payback, while even faster paybacks are possible when DDC systems are installed instead of pneumatic controls in new buildings. Users who mix pneumatic and DDC systems avoid the cost of replacing aging pneumatic equipment and gain the more-precise control of DDC equipment. Energy managers report applications at Fairfax (Virginia) Schools, Control Data Corp., Opus Corp., and Integrated Metal Technology. (DCK)
