Revised US energy production and consumption data for 1979, and recent consumption trends

The preliminary US energy production and consumption data and trends published in the May, 1980 issue of Energy Topics are revised and updated. Consumption trends continue to climb, although per capita energy consumption and the ratio of energy consumption to gross national product (E/G) declined. This indicates that conservation and improved energy efficiency are taking effect. Import totals show that coal was a net export, that petroleum and coke imports declined, and natural gas imports increased. Further data, also presented in tables, reports the trade of value energy imports, sectoral primary energy consumption, and gas consumption. Conservation efforts by energy-intensive industries appear to be effective. Data for the transportation sector shows the rising total and per capita consumption trend declining sharply in 1979. 12 tables. (DCK)
