US energy consumption of 76.35 quads in 1981 is 2.62 quads lower than 1979 figures after a gradual increase between 1975 to 1979. A declining trend of primary consumption/gross national product has continued since 1970. Domestic crude oil and coal production both increased, while oil imports fell. Twelve tables summarize these trends as well as trade values of imports, a sectoral breakdown of primary energy and gas consumption, ranking of the top ten energy-intensive industries, and US passenger car fuel data.
