/sup 1/92Pt(. cap alpha. ,. cap alpha. ') reaction at E = 24 MeV

Angular distributions for excitation of the 0/sup +/, 2/sup +/, 2/sup +/', 4/sup +/, 4/sup +/', and 3/sup -/ states in /sup 1/92Pt by 24 MeV ..cap alpha.. particles have been measured. Coupled-channels analysis of the ground-state band yields negative ..beta../sub 4/ deformations. Analysis of the ''..gamma.. band'' yields a negative E2 interference term P/sub 3/ and a surprising large direct E4 excitation of the 4/sup +/' state.
