Interference between direct nuclear reactions and Coulomb excitation with alpha particles on $sup 154$Sm, $sup 166$Er, and $sup 182$W

Striking destructive interference effects have been observed in the /sup 4/He excitation of the 2+ and 4+ ground-state band rotational states in deformed even-A /sup 154/Sm, /sup 166/Er, and /sup 182/W. The E2 and E4 transiti on moments and charge defomnation parameter, BETA /sub 20//sup c/and BETA /sub 40// sup c/, are given. (auth)
