Shapes of deformed nuclei as determined by electron scattering: $sup 152$Sm, $sup 154$Sm, $sup 166$Er, $sup 176$Yb, $sup 232$Th, $sup 238$U

Electron scattering experiments have been performed on the deformed nuclei $sup 152$Sm, $sup 154$Sm, $sup 166$Er, $sup 176$Yb, $sup 232$Th, and $sup 238$U at momentum transfers between 0.5 fm$sup -1$ and 1.3 fm$sup -1$. The cross sections for the 0$sup +$, 2$sup +$, and 4$sup +$ rotational states of these nuclei have been obtained and together with other information on the electromagnetic properties of these nuclei, these data lead to information about the deformed shapes. The shapes of $sup 166$Er and $sup 176$Yb are quite different from the shapes of $sup 152$Sm and $sup 154$Sm and require a varying skin thickness. The Sm isotopes require a constant skin thickness. Results are presented for rho$sub 0$(r), rho$sub 2$(r), and rho$sub 4$(r). (AIP)
