Analysis of ''gas guzzler'' tax as an energy conservation measure

The amount of fuel conserved through the institution of a ''gas guzzler'' tax and the impacts such a tax would have on automobile purchasing patterns in Colorado is estimated. In addition, the likely effectiveness of such a tax is assessed, and two basic tax alternatives are discussed: tax incentives and disincentives involving one-time tax on the purchase of new vehicles; and an annual tax on all vehicles with greater fees paid by owners of large, more expensive cars.
