Flat FM response from 100 kHz to 15 GHz was achieved in the authors' newly developed multielectrode DFB laser. A {lambda}/4-shifted corrugation and a 1200-{mu}m-long cavity were very effective not only to reduce the linewidth less than 1 MHz, but also to make FM response flat by the selective current injection. The authors have confirmed the clear eye openings under 155 Mb/s and 10 Gb/s NRZ pseudorandom pulse FSK modulation.
