A composite model compound (2-Hydroxymethyl-6(2'- hydroxymethyl-5'-hydroxy- 4'pyrone-6')pyranyl- (3,2-b)pyran- 4,8-dione) was studied as a phenol-like substance to gain knowledge applicable to the study of phenols obtained from process wastewater contaminants. The interaction of iron(III) and copper(II) with our model reagent has been studied in some detail. The formation constants and coordination numbers have been determined polarographically. Tabular and graphic data are presented.
