Life extension runs into environmental barriers

The author discusses the effects of the EPA ruling that a life extension plan for a Wisconsin utility's power plant would have to meet the same regulations for a new power plant. According to the author, the result will be a significant increase in the retirement of old plants. This article also discusses the increased interest in the life extension of nuclear power plants. The life extension project at Yankee Atomic Electric Company is detailed.
