Plant license/life extension (PLEX)

Conference · · Proc. Am. Power Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6682713
The aging effects on availability can be countered by an ongoing plant modernization program, and many cost-effective actions can be implemented by utilities now. One key action is a program of updating and systematizing a plant's design basis documentation, such as that being carried out at the Connecticut Yankee plant. This paper discusses the Westinghouse plant license/life extension (PLEX) program and the technology being developed to address today's needs to maintain plant availability as well as tomorrow's needs to prepare for extending the life of commercial nuclear power plants. Also briefly discussed are the economics of plant life extension.
