Continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser with passive stabilization of self-mode locking: 1

A theory is derived to determine how a passive (unpumped) Nd:YAG element in the resonator influences the self-mode locking of a cw YAG laser. The solutions of the amplitude-phase equations for the laser are derived and analyzed. The intracavity passive YAG element expands the range of laser parameters permitting stable self-locking of the longitudinal modes. It also stabilizes the temporal profile of the emission pulses.
