Continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser with passive stabilization of self-mode locking

In this paper, which is a continuation of Ref. 1 )A. A. Gusev et al., Opt. Spektrosk. 55, 928 (1983) (Opt. Spectrosc. 55, 560 (1983))), we present the results of an experimental investigation of the effect of a passive (unpumped) intracavity Nd-YAG element in the self-mode locking of a YAG laser. It is shown that introduction of a passive element considerably increases the stability of this mode to different perturbing factors and enables it to operate at higher output-power levels. In addition, the emission-pulse length is reduced, and the range of variation of the pulse repetition frequency is extended.
