Time characteristics of pulses emitted by a YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser due to the /sup 4/F/sub 3/2/. -->. /sup 4/I/sub 13/2/ transition

A numerical solution of the rate equations for a Q-switched YAG:Nd/sup 3 +/ laser yielded the time characteristics of the radiation pulses emitted as a result of the /sup 4/F/sub 3/2/..-->../sup 4/I/sub 13/2/ (lambda = 1.318 ..mu..) transition. In contrast to lasing as a result of the main /sup 4/F/sub 3/2/..-->../sup 4/I/sub 11/2/ (lambda = 1.064 ..mu..) transition, it was found experimentally that the radiation pulses are characterized by a slower rise and longer duration, in agreement with the calculated results.
