Comparison of Ohioans' perceptions of strip mining and reclamation in 1970 and 1975

The population of Ohio was surveyed in 1970 and again in 1975 to document attitudes concerning stripmining and land reclamation in that state. Advocates of such mining in the 1970 survey stated that the activity satisfied a demand for power and fuel. The same reasoning was offered in the later survey; however, twice as many favored mining in the second study as in the first study. Opponents argued that mining caused environmental destruction in the first survey; positive responses to reclamation were overwhelming in 1975. (4 references, 5 tables)
