Equations are considered for the lasing of oppositely traveling waves in a ring laser, taking into account spatial distributions of their fields in the resonator. The solution is constructed by the method of perturbation theory in the form of a power series in the amount of excess h = N/sub 0//N/sub th/-1. Expressions are derived for the intensities and frequency difference of the oppositely traveling waves. The case of the onset of frequency nonreciprocity due to incomplete reflection of the waves from the spherical mirror is analyzed. This phenomenon appears to second order in h.
