Diffraction nonreciprocity of the lasing of oppositely traveling wavesin a ring laser with weak diffraction

A theoretical study has been made of the diffraction nonreciprocity of the lasing frequencies and intensities of oppositely traveling waves of the fundamental TEM/sub 00/ mode in the presence of a weak diffraction perturbation of their fields. The transmission of the diaphragms is modeled by a normal distribution. Expressions for the frequency difference ..delta omega.. and intensities I/sub r/,l of the lasing of oppositely traveling waves in a ring laser with a cavity consisting of an arbitrary number of spherical mirrors are derived to first order in the excess of the population over the threshold, and their analysis is given.
