Effect of diaphragm misalignment on the nonreciprocity of oppositely traveling waves in a ring laser

The difference in frequencies and powers of oppositely traveling waves in a ring laser with a misaligned Gaussian diaphragm is discussed. Formulas are obtained for the frequency difference and relative difference of lasing powers of oppositely traveling waves of a laser, caused by misalignment, as a function of the relative positions of the diaphragm and active medium and also of the effective cross-sectional size of the diaphragm and confocality parameter of the cavity.
