Report on a visit to Poelitz concerning coal paste heat exchange (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6770218
An engineer reports on his impression of whether the use of heat exchange to heat part of the coal paste to be hydrogenated would be advantageous or not, based on his visit to the Poelitz plant. His estimate was that heat exchange of paste would save up to about 160,000 RM per liquid-phase chamber per year, under the assumption that no more than 14 days of a 300-day operating year would be lost to extra repairs or replacement of heat exchangers. Of course the main savings would result from a reduced demand for heating gas and steam for heating the coal paste. He recommended the use of paste heat exchange, but he also noted that there was not much difference in size of the preheaters necessary for a three-oven chamber without paste heat exchange and for a four-oven chamber with paste heat exchange. 1 table
