Industry must expand gas search to avert cutoffs

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

The natural gas industry, providing 47 percent of industrial energy, will face future curtailments unless exploratory efforts are expanded. Most exploratory drilling is done by independent companies working with private and corporate investors. Industrial users must participate in finding new gas reserves either by forming new production companies or by investing directly in ongoing exploration efforts of existing companies in exchange for a percentage of the gas produced. Investing users will need to evalute potential producers in order to minimize the legal and economic risks. Industrial users also need to accept the realities of higher fuel costs and government regulation if they are going to invest in existing companies successfully.
