This patent describes a device for plugging a well flow conductor having a landing receptacle. It comprises: tubular housing means having a bore extending therethrough; means on the housing means for releasably locking the housing means in the landing receptacle; means sealing between the housing means and the inner wall of the landing receptacle; means including a plug member for closing the lower end of the bore of the housing means, the plug member being movable longitudinally relative to the housing means between upper and lower positions; mandrel means reciprocable in the bore of the housing means for actuating the locking means to locking position in response to relative downward movement of the mandrel means and for allowing the locking means to move to releasing position in response to relative upward movement of the mandrel means, the mandrel means having a fishing neck at its upper end providing a downwardly facing shoulder engageable by a running tool; and means for releasably locking the mandrel means to the plug member.
