Metastable excitations in heliumlike ions by electrons and positrons: A distorted-wave approach

A distorted-wave Born approximation has been adopted to perform calculations of the cross sections for electron- and positron-impact excitations in positive heliumlike ions initially from their metastable excited states. 2 /sup 1/S..-->..n /sup 1/P and 2/sup 3/S..-->..n/sup 3/P (n = 2,3) transitions in each C/sup 4+/, N/sup 5+/, O/sup 6+/, and Ne/sup 8+/ heliumlike ion are considered. The calculated total excitation cross-section results are compared with other previously reported theoretical estimates.
