Pioneering Ekofisk system to inject gas at 9200 psi
A schematic shows various steps to Ekofisk gas injection. Phillips Petroleum Co. will have in operation late this year or early in 1975 a pioneering type high pressure gas injection system at its North Sea Ekofisk field complex designed to inject up to 500 MMcfd at 9,200 psi. The system will enable Phillips to conserve gas and maintain reservoir pressure in production of Ekofisk crude. Constructed by the packaged compressor division of Dresser Industries, the complete high pressure system, including compressor trains, heat exchangers, injection manifold and headers, and control equipment was built on barges at Dresser's Houston, Texas, facility. The complete system has been installed at 4 Ekofisk platforms, FTP and C after it was towed from Texas to the North Sea. Physical layout of the high pressure system is in 3 sections: a center section contains heat exchangers and control apparatus, and on either side identical compressor trains. All compression equipment, 6 units totalling 110,000 hp, are driven by gas turbines. Discharge pressure of the 2 reinjection compressors, 9,200 psig, represents a record high for centrifugal compressors.
