New-generation compressors injecting gas at Ekofisk

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7341860

In 1971, the Phillips Norway Group decided to handle the natural gas injection requirements at its North Sea Ekofisk oil field with a centrifugal compressor. The design called for 9,200 psig discharge pressure, almost three times the pressure capability of existing centrifugal natural gas compressors. The process conditions, compressor design, start-up problems, and modifications made to correct these problems are described in detail. The compressors have been in successful operation under severe conditions since December 1974. (JSR)
