X-ray line broadening: its solution and application through the use of a digital computer (LWBR Development Program)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6746284

Computer program MO615 was written to utilize the Fourier transform method to correct broadened x-ray lines for experimental conditions without any assumptions as to peak shape. By comparison to the appropriate standard line no other corrections are needed to directly apply the true diffraction broadening given by the computer. A number of plots are also produced which allow a critical analysis of whether small crystallite size or strain broadening is more prominent. Such an analysis can be done with just one diffracted line. Examples of small crystallite size broadening for UO/sub 2/ product and strain broadening for cold-rolled zirconium foil are included.
