Microscopic investigation of the. cap alpha. +/sup 18/O system in a three-cluster model

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The /sup 22/Ne spectrum is investigated with microscopic wave functions defined in the generator-coordinate formalism. This nucleus is described in a three-cluster model, involving an /sup 16/O core surrounded by a dineutron and an ..cap alpha.. particle. The /sup 18/O cluster is projected out on the 0/sup +/ and 2/sup +/ states. We propose a band structure of /sup 22/Ne with experimental candidates. The model suggests the existence of a 0/sup +/ band presenting a marked ..cap alpha..+/sup 18/O cluster structure. We present the ..cap alpha..+/sup 18/O(0/sup +/,2/sup +/) collision matrices, and discuss the resonance properties in the /sup 18/O(..cap alpha..,..cap alpha..)/sup 18/O scattering. Electromagnetic transition probabilities in the /sup 22/Ne nucleus are calculated. From the theoretical Coulomb shifts between the mirror /sup 22/Ne and /sup 22/Mg nuclei, we suggest spin assignments for different /sup 22/Mg states. The /sup 18/O(..cap alpha..,..gamma..)/sup 22/Ne capture cross section is calculated, and is used for determining microscopically the nonresonant reaction rate.
