Study of /sup 24/Mg by a /sup 16/O +. cap alpha. +. cap alpha. model

The structure of /sup 24/Mg is studied by a microscopic /sup 16/O + ..cap alpha.. + ..cap alpha.. model with calculation of the relative motions of this system. The positive and negative parity levels are calculated together with alpha and /sup 8/Be spectroscopic factors and B(E2) values. It is found that the cluster model for /sup 24/Mg is successful in interpretation of all the low-lying bands except for the K/sup ..pi../ = 3/sup -/(7.63) band. Also the 0/sub 4//sup +/ and 0/sub 5//sup +/ levels, which have a cluster structure, are obtained. 9 references. (JFP)
