The processes of SCA Chemical Services Co.'s (an SCA Chemical Waste Services Inc. division) new waste-to-waste processing and recovery facility in Newark, N.J. are chemical unit operations based on modifications of chemical functional groups. Process reactions in organic reclamation include liquid-liquid and liquid-solid separations, steam stripping of solvents and volatile organics, acid/base neutralization, and chemical and active-oxygen oxidation. Sulfuric and hydrochloric acids are recovered by catalytic regeneration, while high-Btu fuels are recovered from moderately contaminated mixed fuel oils by a modified equipment designed for continuous solvent recovery. Recovered organics are supplied to the fuel reclamation process. Unrecovered acids and bases are neutralized and disposed; reaction gases are scrubbed by a countercurrent absorption system and retreated prior to discharage. SCA offers existing treatment systems or designs new ones following analyses of specific wastes.
