Early in 1978, Norwalk-Turbo Inc. completed a 700 hp gas turbine compressor package, which was completely prefabricated, mounted on a trailer, and placed in operation by a major gas transmission company. Since then, the unit has been successfully operated over many miles of pipeline, evacuating as much as 120 million cu ft of natural gas within a month's operation, saving significant energy and revenue. Norwalk-Turbo has similar units rated up to 1800 hp and mounted in the same trailer space, 8 ft x 20 ft. The 45,000 lb units are ideally suited to pipeline blowdown during testing and maintenance operations and can be transported over the road without special permits.
