Synthesis and characterization of novel yttrium-copper alkoxide clusters

On reaction of [Y(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)[sub 3]][sub 10] (2) with [(thd)Cu(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)][sub 4] (1a) and [(hfd)Cu(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)][sub 4] (1b) (thd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione; hfd = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetone), the mixed-metal clusters (thd)[sub 4]Cu[sub 3]Y(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)[sub 5] (3), [(hfd)[sub 2]CuY(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)[sub 3]][sub 2] (4), and (hfd)[sub 2](thd)[sub 2]Cu[sub 2]Y(OCH[sub 2]CH[sub 2]OMe)[sub 3] (5) are formed. Their elemental analyses and IR and vis spectroscopic data are reported. 14 refs., 3 figs., 10 tabs.
